Présentation

Programme of 3 courses lasting for 45 minutes each. Each one of these courses will build on the previous one, with the first one bringing in the theoretical foundation on which the 2 subsequent courses will be built. These concepts will find a practical application in the classroom which will partly come from the practitioner's own ressources but also from the official teaching tools. The latter will be enhanced and be made more exciting in order to keep motivation levels up. Course 1: You will obtain some invaluable knowledge on theoretical concepts- syllable-timed language vs. stress-timed language, the 5 tricky ones: liaison, ellision, juncture, assimilation and vowel reduction in unstressed syllables. Course 2: You will be introduced to some classroom techniques intending to introduce and deepen students' understanding of the stress and prominence systems as well as other suprasegmental features of the English language. How to use Underhill's phonemic chart and various other techniques to improve the pronunciation of phonemes which prove difficult to pronounce for French locutors (short and long sounds, diphthongs, 'th') Course 3: How you can apply the techniques learned in course 2 and use the official teaching tools (MER), exploring them to identify pronunciation activities which will need enhancing and improving to make them more appealing to our target audience.
